Another Rogue Studio working on recycling the incredible clutter in our memetic environment is Illegal Art, the 1998 invention of Philo T. Farnsworth.  With the release of Deconstructing Beck, Illegal Art created a high standard of culturally-dissonant compop, freeing up much-needed environmental brainspace.  The good work continues, many releases later, with movie-based works, commercial-based pieces, terrorism-based compositions; even a christmas album.

“We want to release things that fall all along the continuum between pop and esoteric, political and apolitical, abstract and concrete. That is one of the purposes of the label -- to show all the amazing types of music you can make out of samples.”

In Illegal Art’s capable hands, the future of our intellectual biodiversity seems assured.
